Q-Collar: The Inner Shield for Brain Protection

Q30 Innovations is dedicated to reducing traumatic brain injury risks both in sports and military contexts. Since 2012, Q30 Innovations has partnered with leading medical, academic, engineering, and design institutions to pioneer the FDA-cleared Q-Collar. The Q-Collar is the world’s first technology to leverage the body’s natural physiology to protect against mild traumatic brain injury from concussive events. In February 2021, the FDA granted authorization for the Q-Collar, affirming its safety and efficacy for athletes aged 13 and older. This device is designed to be worn around the neck during sports activities, offering protection from the effects linked to repetitive sub-concussive head impacts.

The Q-Collar is used by numerous athletes in the National Football League, Major League Soccer, National Women’s Soccer League, international bobsled and skeleton teams, and over 80 NCAA Division 1 institutions. It is also partnered with the Premier Lacrosse League. Trusted by U.S. special forces, the Q-Collar is currently undergoing a research study with the U.S. Army.

Q30 is dedicated to delivering innovation for the protection and advancement of Military personnel, ensuring they perform better, safer, and for longer durations. Recognizing that military personnel frequently suffer from traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) during training or in combat, Q30 focuses on preventing or reducing these injuries. TBIs in military contexts are often caused by head impacts and blast waves from missiles, ballistics, artillery, IEDs, and shoulder-fired weapons. By addressing these specific threats, Q30 aims to enhance the safety and effectiveness of those who serve on the front lines.

By integrating the Q-Collar with your existing protective gear, you add an essential layer of defense. While helmets shield the head externally, the Q-Collar safeguards the brain from within. This simple and safe device applies gentle pressure to the jugular veins, slightly increasing blood volume inside the head. This pressure helps reduce the brain’s movement upon impact, a primary cause of brain injury.

Frequent impacts from activities like headers, jostling, and collisions can damage the brain’s deep tissues. These smaller incidents, accumulate over time and pose significant long-term health risks. These risks include decreased mental acuity, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. By wearing the Q-Collar, you help protect yourself from these potential long-term effects, ensuring better brain health over time.

Brain impact

When soldiers encounter a blast wave or overpressure during duty, the immediate impact on the brain occurs as it collides with the skull. The energy from a blast wave induces violent brain motion, which can persist for several seconds after the initial impact, increasing the risk of traumatic brain injury.

The Q-Collar has undergone rigorous testing and evaluation in the harshest environments, including with the most elite U.S. Warfighters. These trials have demonstrated its effectiveness in providing brain protection under extreme conditions.

Today, the Q-Collar is available in the United States and Canada, offering crucial protection for both athletes and military personnel. By incorporating the Q-Collar into their gear, individuals can benefit from its proven ability to reduce the effects of impacts and blast waves, safeguarding their brain health and enhancing their safety during high-risk activities.
